SHOP BUILT Portable Band Saw CUTTING JIG is AWESOME!

⇨ SUBSCRIBE to Brandon Lund DIY Builds: https://www.youtube.com/brandonlund Check out this AWESOME Shop Built Portable Band Saw cutting jig! This jig allows you to make fast and accurate 45 degree left and right hand miter cuts using your portable band saw! You can even make straight cuts! The jig can be clamped into your bench vise or you can simply clamp it to your work piece and make the cut. This is a prototype and proof of concept that I plan to refine over time. So far, it's a huge WINNER! If you plan to build this for yourself, don't use 3" plate. I think it would work better using 2" plate for the reasons mentioned in the video. Splitting BIG Hardwood with a 5 Ton Electric Hydraulic Wood Log Splitter

09:29
Splitting BIG Hardwood with a 5 Ton Electric Hydraulic Wood Log Splitter! Let me start be saying that I had very low expectations at first because it is only rated to split a 10" - 25.4 cm log - but this wood splitter has proven me wrong. It has split just about everything I can throw at it. Every year I cut, split and stack hardwood firewood by hand. It's a lot of work and towards the end I am exhausted and usually decide to rent a wood splitter for a few days. This year I decided to purchase an inexpensive 5 ton electric hydraulic wood splitter from Harbor Freight Central Machinery and I am completely amazed at how well this works. If your considering purchasing an inexpensive log splitter, you cant go wrong. It never runs out of gas, it always starts and you don't have to listen to a noisy engine all day. It's simple and it works great! At the time of this video, the log splitter lists for $299. I used a 20% off coupon which brought the price down to $239. It costs 55/day to rent the smallest log splitter in my area. 3 days rental is $165, so for $74 dollars more than renting, I was able to purchase this and I own it afterwards!. Now I can split firewood at my leisure and I don't have to pay rental fees next year! 6011 Vs 6013 BEST POLARITY for WELDING SHEET METAL

14:09
6011 Vs 6013 Which ROD and Polarity is BEST for WELDING SHEET METAL? Have you ever wondered what the difference is between 6011 and 6013 electrodes and what happens if you switch from DC Positive DCEP to DC Negative? DCEN Here is a side by side comparison of how each of these rods performs on sheet metal doing exactly that! See the results for yourself! The test material we used is 16 gauge (1.29 mm) sheet metal and the rods are 1/16" (1.6 mm) 6011 and 6013. The manufacturer recommended running these rods at 20-40 amps. I found that 20 amps was the sweet spot on my machine. ⇨ SUBSCRIBE to Brandon Lund DIY Builds: https://www.youtube.com/brandonlund THE TOOLS & GEAR I USE 🔴 https://www.amazon.com/shop/brandonlund Welder: https://amzn.to/2t4rOZF Chipping Hammer: https://amzn.to/2sW4JIy Welding Helmet: https://amzn.to/2JGmGFa Any commission earned from the above Amazon affiliate links all go towards helping to support the channel. Stick Welding Cast Iron Repair with Muggy Weld

12:45
Stick Welding Cast Iron Repair with Muggy Weld. Cast iron can be tricky to repair because it's prone to cracking. Follow along as I repair a broken cast iron exhaust manifold using Muggy Weld with no pre-heat. For this demonstration I used a 2 step process starting with an electrode that can withstand the dirtiest of cast irons followed by a cap that has excellent crack resistance properties. Although I believe a good pre-heat and a slow cool down will give you the best chance for success, i wanted to see how this rod would respond in a worst case scenario such as cold welding. It handled the thermal stresses excellent without any signs of cracking. This would be a huge bonus for parts too big to get a good pre-heat / cool down or for parts that are not cost effective to be removed. Hit the notifications! We are going to be doing some more experiments with these rods, including tig welding. Metal Thickness Gauge and why you should have one!

Metal Thickness Gauge and why you need one! I consider this a must have shop tool. It's a great tool to have in the workshop, on the job site or even while your shopping your local metal yard. Take the guesswork out of the material thickness you are working with. Knowing the correct material thickness will help you set up your welding machine. Even though I didn't mention it in the video, the smaller notches on the end of the tool can also be used to determine common MIG wire sizes. Permanently Restore Faded Plastic and Make it look NEW AGAIN! E.3

Permanently Restore Faded Plastic Make it look NEW AGAIN! This is a permanent fix! Follow along as I show you how I took the original weather faded and oxidized plastic hood and cowl and made them look factory new again without paint, clear coat, heat or scraping with razor blades. This simple process involves wet sanding and machine buffing. For my application I started out with 150 grit then progressed to 220, 320, 400 then jumped to 1500, followed by machine polishing with polishing compound and then a final polish with mirror glaze then an automotive wax to protect everything for years to come. TIG Welding Nickel Rod Cast Iron Repair Cast Iron Skillet

18:24
TIG Welding Nickel Rod Cast Iron Repair Cast Iron Skillet. Cast iron can be tricky to repair because it's prone to cracking. Follow along as I repair a broken cast iron skillet handle using specialty welding rods with TIG. I also show you 5 ways to determine if your part is cast iron or cast steel. This repair method uses a preheat and a cool down. For this repair I used Muggy Weld #77 welding electrodes for it's excellent crack resistance properties. After the repair was made, I wanted to see just how strong a piece of welded cast iron really is, so I clamped the handle to the workbench and began stacking weight on the skillet until eventually the weld failed! Wait until you see the results! This is just a demonstration. Nickel is a carcinogen. I would not weld anything with nickel that you ingest. I chose to weld this skillet to eliminate any accusations that this is made from anything other than cast iron. Hit the notifications bell so you don't miss out on weekly episodes! Building an Industrial Coffee Table for Charity - Metal & Wood

Building an Industrial Metal and Wood Coffee Table for Charity. Dimensions 30x30x19 made of 1 1/2" metal angle, 3 1/2" plate and expanded metal. The pallet wood top was flame distressed then sealed with boiled linseed oil while still hot from the flame process. The wood was then sealed using Minwax paste wax. The TIG welded metal frame was stained using Sculpt Nouveau black stain and then sealed using Minwax satin PolyCrylic. This piece was handcrafted to last generations. The products I used to finish this piece are available in the links below. Every year Klearview Manor of Fairfield, Maine holds a silent auction. The funds raised from that auction go towards helping special needs folks that are wheelchair bound attend a summer camp. I built this coffee table for that purpose. I hope that the successful bidder enjoys this table for many many years as much as I did building it. Welder Repair Adjusting the High Frequency Contacts

03:49
Welder Repair Adjusting the High Frequency Contacts. Does the ARC on your TIG Welder sometimes not start or maybe when you press the trigger all you hear is a buzzing sound from inside the welder. It could be a very simple and easy fix! Today I'm going to show you how I inspect, clean and adjust the high frequency contacts inside a high frequency TIG Welder and get it running new again. This video is for entertainment purposes only. There are capacitors inside the case that store energy when the unit is unplugged. You can be electrocuted and die even if the unit is unplugged. Do not open the case. Take it to a professional. Always read and follow the manufacturer’s safety guidelines before handling tools. Welding Cast Iron Visual Inspection and Testing

14:22
Welding Cast Iron Visual Inspection and Testing. I recently repaired some cast iron using Muggy Weld electrodes. During that episode, some of the viewers said the part I was welding was cast steel, even though we spark tested and drill tested it. I figured this would be a great opportunity to cut open our weld and do some more testing and experiments. Welding cast iron can be tricky because it is prone to cracking. In this episode I show you a 3rd option to help determine if something is cast iron and then we weld it up again using some 6010 electrodes on the Blue Demon welder. Many inverter welders wont run a 6010 rod. We then try solid mig wire, followed by TIG welding with some mild steel filler wire, then we experiment with TIG welding some 316L stainless filler wire. The results are what you would expect from no pre and post heat with a continuous weld. I hope you enjoyed these experiments as much as I did doing them! BE SURE TO TUNE IN NEXT WEEK! WE ARE GOING TO BE DOING SOMETHING WITH CAST IRON THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE! THEN WE ARE DOING A COMPLETE REPAIR FROM START TO FINISH! ⇨ SUBSCRIBE to Brandon Lund DIY Builds: https://www.youtube.com/brandonlund THE TOOLS & GEAR I USE 🔴 https://www.amazon.com/shop/brandonlund Link to Blue Demon Welder https://amzn.to/2MsrEWx Lenox Metal Max Diamond Cutoff Wheel: https://amzn.to/2M6xyJ0 Any commission earned from the above Amazon affiliate links all goes towards helping to support my channel. MAKE MONEY BY LEARNING METAL FABRICATION $$$

11:06
MAKE MONEY BY LEARNING METAL FABRICATION! I'm including this in the "Beginner Welding Series" because this is a real-life example of how fabricating your own parts can save you a bunch of money (which can then be used to purchase more equipment to support your metal working addiction). During the "Tractor Rebuild Series" I needed to replace the mower deck skirts. The cost to buy the parts online was $71.00 dollars plus shipping. I dug through my scrap pile and found the material we needed and used the old parts as templates to plasma cut the new ones. We ended up with better than factory parts for ALMOST FREE. This is a real-life example of what the parts cost and how to make exact duplicates using the old ones as templates and cutting them out using a Plasma Cutter. This is a simple real-life example to get you thinking about how your metal working hobby can help save and even make you some money! Dual Bagger Hinge Lid Cover Repair

05:13
Dual Bagger Hinge Lid Cover Repair. I picked up this Craftsman Dual Bagger from the free pile on the side of the road. Once I got it home I realized that it needed some repairs. One of the issues was that the plastic lid that covers the bins was broken where the lid hinges so the cover would not stay attached. I came up with a very simple and easy permanent repair that you can do to fix your bagger cover. I chose to TIG weld a custom bracket, but it could be done with stick or mig just as easily. For the repair, I used some scrap 14 gauge metal, some aluminum rivets and some machine screw washers. We start by removing the damaged deck skirts and use them as templates to trace new ones with the Plasma Cutter. Then we sand and scrape the mover deck and apply Chassis Saver paint. This stuff is amazing! It prevents and stops rust, is solvent and chemical resistant and can be sprayed or brushed. Then we give the deck a coat of fresh paint, install the belts, install some new blades and get ready cut some grass, but first we have to install some tubes in the rear tires! Servicing a hot water tank that hasn't been touched in 8 years! Is it any good?

24:34
Servicing a hot water tank that hasn't been touched in 8 years! Lately our hot water hasn't been lasting as long so I decided to look into it. As a homeowner I feel I have a obligation to educate myself and try to do basic maintenance on our heating system to save a little money. My wife and I had our Buderus oil fired hydronic heating system installed 8 years ago. Since that time I have never inspected or serviced our hot water tank. I learned there is a piece of sacrificial metal inside the tank called an anode rod. This rod acts as the weak link within the tank. It is designed to be eaten away by the minerals in the water rather than the minerals eating away your expensive water tank. The problem is that without routine maintenance, this rod can completely rot away, leaving your expensive tank unprotected. It's said that with routine maintenance you can double the life of your tank. Follow along and I will show you what I did to get my tank running like new again. This includes inspecting the tank, examining the dip tube, removing the anode rod, flushing out the tank, installing a new anode rod and refilling the tank. I even build a neat little tool to help jet out the tank! ⇨ SUBSCRIBE to Brandon Lund DIY Builds: https://www.youtube.com/brandonlund THE TOOLS & GEAR I USE 🔴 https://www.amazon.com/shop/brandonlund Any commission earned from the above Amazon affiliate links all goes towards helping to support my channel. WELDING CART - Cheaper Than You Can Build!?! My thoughts!

05:06
I picked up this Chicago Electric Welder Cart and soon realized that with it's powder coat finish and sturdy 18 gauge metal construction, I can not build one for this price! It is rated for 100 pounds. If all you need is a basic cart to hold your MIG, TIG, Stick or Plasma Cutter, this is a very affordable option. This is NOT a sponsored video. I paid for this with a gift card I received for Christmas. How I Fixed My Leaking Hot Water Boiler Furnace

15:17
How I Fixed My Leaking Oil Fired Hot Water Boiler Furnace. I decided to check on my furnace because we are supposed to get some very cold weather. I'm glad I did! I found a leaking heater manifold pipe that was rotted and leaking so bad that it would not have made it another day. If this burst it would have flooded my basement. I would never attempt to fix this on my own because this heats my house and it heats my hot water and I don't know much about furnaces, boilers or how the plumbing works. The only reason I decided to give it a try was because my furnace guy was too busy and could not get to it soon enough and we needed heat and hot water. This probably would have cost me a few hundred dollars to have a professional repair it. I got lucky and spent less than $40 in materials and about 3 hours of my time and saved BIG! NOTE: I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I"M DOING AND I DO NOT ADVOCATE YOU TRY ANYTHING YOU SEE ME DOING. THIS IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY. IF YOU MESS WITH YOUR FURNACE, YOU COULD DESTROY IT OR WORSE, HURT OR KILL YOURSELF. LEAVE THIS TYPE OF WORK FOR THE PROFESSIONALS.
