Rocket Stove Welding Project

After watching at least 20 videos on making Rocket Stoves, I decided to try my own design. I scrounged up enough scrap materials laying around the shop to make one that works really well. I used A 10 inch piece of 3" stainless tubing and a short piece of 1-1/4" sq tubing about 5 inches long with a 45% end. I also used some 1/2" nuts and bolts in case I wanted to level it or use it on a picnic table top and not scorch the wood. Or I could use a scrap piece of wood in between the rocket stove and my jeep bumper.

How to TIG Weld Aluminum part 1

10:20
Visit my online store https://weldmongerstore.com/ For the best collection of videos on tig welding aluminum click here https://goo.gl/bxkORP This is the first in series of videos about how to tig weld aluminum. My plan is to kick it off with this video and then let the comments dictate the direction I take from here. The reason is what I think folks want to see, may not actually be what they want to see. So comments and questions about how to tig weld aluminum will help. There is a lot to talk about. things like tungsten electrodes..type and size ( i like 2% lanthanated for everything and 3/32 takes care of most of my daily welding) shielding gases ...argon is best to start but if you begin to specialize in thicker aluminum, it might make sense to use a blend of argon and helium...or use some of the newer blends like stargon AL from praxair. Below are some products that I don’t carry, but I use them in my videos and can vouch for their quality. Mig Welding - Short Arc - pushing vs pulling vs Spray Transfer

04:05
http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/how-to-mig.html Mig welding using short circuit transfer can handle sheet metal thickness all the way up to the beefy thick metal if done right. But for the really thick stuff, Spray transfer can be the ticket. 90/10 argon/co2 gas allows for spray transfer if you are using .035" er70s6 wire at about 25 volts and 350 ipm inches per minute of wire feed speed. Its hot...Its fast....and it really needs a heavy duty mig welding machine.

In order to get all the use out of the material, beads can be stacked until there is no more room on the plate. This will require letting the meal cool off periodically but will offer a lot of practice and hood time with very little material.

My first Welding Lathe made from a Old Bicycle

07:32
Back around 1998, I got a request to quote a job that involved welding 200 or so small round stainless steel parts. I didnt have a welding lathe or even a turntable at the time...but I quoted the job anyway and got it. The story was... was supposed to get 100 parts every month for several years. (seems like thats always the story to get you to quote lower) but I had heard that song and dance before so instead of stepping out and spending money on a welding turntable, I built my own DIY welding lathe turntable for these parts for the first order of 200 parts. I used an old bicycle, some drill chucks, and a cheap Kmart variable speed drill motor. see the full article here http://goo.gl/h7720K visit the store here http://goo.gl/P36UKS

Amperage for stainless - stainless steel is less thermally conductive than carbon steel and therefore requires only about 2/3 of the amperage that would work on carbon steel. so if you would normally use 60 amps on carbon steel, only 40 amps would be needed on stainless. Get your puddle started quickly and get moving - you should have your puddle in 2 seconds or less and get going. Hanging around for several seconds might indicate a need to increase amperage. remember , heat input does not only involve amperage. Travel speed is a big factor also

Overhead 7018 Biggest Mistake

Amperage needs to be hot enough so that when you hold a very tight arc , the rod will not stick. Arc length needs to be short. Rod angle needs to be kept to a minimum..only 5-15 degrees. A long arc will result in molten metal falling out of the puddle and will not produce good results. I used 125 amps for this video but all machines are a bit different and even 7018 rods are different. For example, a Lincoln Excalibur 7018 might require more amperage than a hobart from tractor supply.

Tig Brazing a Steel Cube

For Furick Ceramic 12 cups, TIG fingers, and more, visit https://weldmongerstore.com/ The difference between TIG brazing and TIG welding is brazing occurs above 840f but below the melting point of the base metal being joined. Silicon bronze filler metal melts around 1800-1900f and carbon steel melts around 2800f. Silicon bronze is a useful rod to have in your tig arsenal because its a good rod for joining dissimilar metals. cast iron, steel, copper, bronze, and brass can all be joint to each other using silicon bronze rod also know as Everdur.
