Shop Stool (old video edited)

4952 ratings | 298014 views
Building a unique space saving shop stool. I came up with this idea right after I finished building my workbench and wanted to have a comfortable seat when building projects. This seat is not only comfortable, it works on both sides of the bench, looks cool and does not take up any floor space. Follow along as I build this unique shop stool. Great build! The only thing I would have changed would have been mounting it a little lower and drilling holes in the shaft of the seat to allow for hight adjustments with a pin. Great project though! I wish I'd thought of it years ago!
Brandon Lund (20 days ago)
Thanks man! Yah, I thought about making the seat adjustable too, but it's really only me that sits there so I decided to keep it fixed.

I hadda laugh when you put that belt sander in your vise! Well, whatever works, eh?
Brandon Lund (2 months ago)
Who needs one of those fancy 2" benchtop models when you can have this? Lol. Cheers brother!
JStephen Allington (2 months ago)
In my experience. (as a machinist for ten years, and a drill press operator for three of those) hole saws just do not work well on metal. Or at the very least, there are much better ways of cutting out large diameter holes. Much better ways.
Brandon Lund (2 months ago)
I completely agree. Using a hole saw on metal is very time consuming and possibly dangerous if your not strong enough to over power the drill when it binds. If I had to do it again, I would probably use the hole saw to bore a hole in a piece of 1/4" ply and then just use that as a template for the plasma.

It’s been almost a year... how is the stool holding up? Did you put clear finish on the metal so it won’t rust? You should do an update video after some use!
Brandon Lund (4 months ago)
I absolutely love it! I wiped on some wax and that's all I've done. I use it constantly! I will show it off in an upcoming video! Thanks for watching!

yo bro.. is there a 220v milwaukee bandsaw anywhere in the US ? yours is 110-120v right? thanks...nice video
Brandon Lund (8 months ago)
mindfreak001009 I don't believe milwaukee makes a 220v model. This saw is 120v. I did fund a makita portable bandsaw but it's long dollar (expensive) https://www.samstores.com/product-makita-2107f-portable-band-saw-240-volts-13550.html
Jim Marriott (8 months ago)
Use your hole saw to mark the circles from both sides. Plasma cut the remainder. Particularly helpful with thicker material. Well done project.

Buen trabajo pero inútil. El banco de trabajo se puede dar vuelta si no está atornillado al suelo y se lo puede usar en sólo dos lugares.
Brandon Lund (10 months ago)
My bench is not bolted to the ground and it has not turned over. Not even once. What may appear "useless" to you, is actually something that is used daily in the workshop with none of the negative things you pointed out.

Nice job & a very good vid. You speed things up & don't bore us with a bunch of BS. Just a tip about making the seat post, drill a hole the size of the pivot tube thru the top plate & weld the top rather than welding it to the bottom. That will give you a smooth surface  to rotate on the bushing. 👍
Good job

LOL. That's what I use. They are good at first but just don't last long. Thanks
Brandon Lund (1 year ago)
I'm using Harbor Freight on this project. I've had really good luck as long as you keep them well lubed. The stubby fat ones seem to dull quickly though. The longer tapered ones seem to last much longer than some of the Greelee ones I have. Thanks for watching man!
