⇨ SUBSCRIBE to Brandon Lund DIY Builds: https://www.youtube.com/brandonlund Check out this AWESOME Shop Built Portable Band Saw cutting jig! This jig allows you to make fast and accurate 45 degree left and right hand miter cuts using your portable band saw! You can even make straight cuts! The jig can be clamped into your bench vise or you can simply clamp it to your work piece and make the cut. This is a prototype and proof of concept that I plan to refine over time. So far, it's a huge WINNER! If you plan to build this for yourself, don't use 3" plate. I think it would work better using 2" plate for the reasons mentioned in the video. Sudo Penguin (2 months ago)
I wish that it also kept the cut straight up and down .. that’s the biggest issue I have with my porta band
Brandon Lund (2 months ago)
Sudo Penguin yes I agree. I’ve changed a few things that seems to have fixed that issue and done some minor adjustments. One of these days I will get back to it and finish the idea lol
Tank Soldier (4 months ago)
That build was a great idea
Brandon Lund (4 months ago)
Thanks man!

good job. but you started your angle cut on protruding piece without even using the miter rail the guide cuts. not sure how that helps.
Brandon Lund (4 months ago)
Check the video at 4:56. The foot of the bandsaw rides again the jig, which makes the saw automatically positioned at 45 degrees to the work piece. I hope this e plains it better...yes a taller fence could be beneficial also.

I just use a wood miter guide with a handsaw. This is good :)
Brandon Lund (8 months ago)
Ricardo Chavarria thank you!

Liked and shared...I want one!!!
Brandon Lund (10 months ago)
Tsunami101st Thanks! I will have further details on entering coming up soon! Someone is going to end up with a cool tool!
Gordon Reiher (10 months ago)
You should patent this. Seriously.
Douglas Ward (4 months ago)
Legally, it already is. If someone has a drawing dated earlier or a video dated earlier that's different. If joke Depot shows up with one just get a good lawyer..and ab accountant to handle your royalties
Brandon Lund (10 months ago)
I'm hoping people would see this as useful :)
Bull Mtn. Billy (11 months ago)
Nice job!  I have the same saw &  of all the different ways I have to cut metal its the most used tool in my shop.
Brandon Lund (11 months ago)
I completely agree with you, I always come come back to this as my "go to" tool. No fumes or sparks makes me happy! Thank you and thanks for watching!
Bill Knight (11 months ago)
I was just dealing with the same situation last week. Going to build one next time I have to use the bandsaw. The simple ideas are always the best. Good job.
Brandon Lund (11 months ago)
Thank you very much Bill!!! Make sure you make the bottom piece a little smaller than what I used so the saw doesn't bottom out. If you follow this build, I plan to make a few minor changes to make it work better.

Reminds me of fireball tools type set up
Brandon Lund (11 months ago)
Tiersmoke92555 Thanks for the encouragement! At first I thought you were saying someone had already came up with this idea, then I checked their website. :)
casy casy (11 months ago)
just found your channel what mode did you do to the bandsaw to make this work
Brandon Lund (11 months ago)
casy casy that's the great thing about this jig...you do NOTHING to your saw. Thanks for watching!
D Rickard (11 months ago)
That's pretty slick...now I want a Porta band. I thought I could justify it even after having both a vertical and horizontal saw along with a cold saw. You had me sold when you were talking about bringing the saw to the work a couple of videos ago but now you're bringing the work to the saw with the jig. You've left me with mixed feelings...lol
Brandon Lund (11 months ago)
D Rickard Well now you can bring both to the saw! 😀

Thank you and i'm glad you enjoyed it!
Jaques Daniels (11 months ago)
Brilliant, simple concept transferred from wood to metal, I'm only just now getting fairly 90° cuts with my portaband, but that mitre box is a great idea and something similar could be made for larger diameter tube and pipe. Note to any new folks starting out on the welding and fabrication road, if your cuts are not spot on, don't worry too much as with welding its easier to correct that and hide with welding compared to woodworking. However, thats not an excuse for sloppy work and we should strive for accuracy which is more satisfying and adds to the sense of achievement.Plenty of portaband stand builds out there, but that mitre box is first I've seen.Great job sir.
Brandon Lund (11 months ago)
Thanks Jaques. It's super simple but I haven't seen one built for metal either. This go around was really just a proof of concept to see how it would work. It still has a few bugs but it's getting there. The great thing is that if you want a 45 degree, you only need to make a small mark without tracing the whole 45 degree angle. This jig as it sits right now cuts it within a half degree. Maybe this will be the next craze like the band saw stands! ANY TOOL MAKERS OUT THERE>>>ANYONE! :) Take care buddy!

I like this dude cause he’s having fun and not forcing a video cause a “brand” is making him! Nice work Brandon!

Thank you. This was something that I really needed. It will save me a lot of time in the shop cutting angles.
Bill Holly (11 months ago)
Great idea on the build. How many teeth per inch do you find works best on your bandsaw blades? Thank you.
Brandon Lund (11 months ago)
Thanks Bill! I use a 14 TPI for most of the stuff I cut.
Michelangelo Lavagno (11 months ago)
wow.. another great work.....what talent!you're very good
Brandon Lund (11 months ago)
Thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words!
Arthur Carter (11 months ago)
Great idea. If you look at a traditional mitre box for cutting wood, you would find that the "fence" where the guide slots are cut is taller than the wood being cut enabling the saw blade to start the cut in the guide. Your fence seems a little shallow as the sample cut you showed in this video meant starting the cut on the piece rather than on the guide.
Brandon Lund (11 months ago)
Arthur Carter Good point and thank you!
