Must use end papers. I think it's cute on you.
Courageous Cat (4 months ago)
It's good to use roller paper for sponge rollers so the roller wont pull your hair out.

lola bigcups (6 months ago)
I wonder how a brush out would look on your hair.
Melissa Elvire (6 months ago)
+lola bigcups huh🤔. That is interesting.. thank you for sharing that, I will look into it..it sounds pretty. Lol
lola bigcups (6 months ago)
+Melissa Elvire No ma'am, it's a vintage style, you have to use a bit of hair grease and you use a brush to brush the curls into waves. I saw a white woman do it and wondered if it could work on natural hair.
Melissa Elvire (6 months ago)
Like blow out?

Use setting papers on the ends for less breakage and frizzy ends. Your should have been a little damp and try plastic rollers. Your hair did look good. I had been doing this for clients for years.
Priscilla Soileau (3 months ago)
Where do you get the plastic tension rollers?
Marilyn Williams (7 months ago)
Good video, but here’s a tip that works for me: buy a box of straws for about a dollar, remove the pink clips that come inside the foam rollers, insert straws in the slots instead and cut straws off at size of rollers. This will work on almost any size foam roller. Roll hair, sliding long Bobby pins easily through the straw to anchor. Much easier, more comfortable, especially to sleep on and they will stay in place, not move around or tangle. Also, we already put so much product on our hair as it is, just spraying rolled head lightly with water works well and can give a softer look. 😊

I'm 57 and have Benn using sponge rollers on my natural, pressed, permed hair since I was a kid so this is Nothing new. But you young people think you've discovered it... So go ahead. We're shaking our heads but at least your learning, so go for it.... Just ask us once in awhile and we'll tell you the real story.
Melissa Elvire (8 months ago)
I'm glad you've been using this for a long time..but I never mentioned anything about discovering them. Thank you for watching though. P.S. my grandma used to use them too :)

Tension is the key. Even tension, grip the roots. I personally liked the curls. A bit of edge control and a few Bobby pins = a lot of possibilities! Great video!!
Melissa Elvire (8 months ago)
Oh Tension could be why also. I liked the curls but not how I wanted them to look. LOL Everyone is coming up with different ideas, I love it. I might try them again! Thank you for watching!

Melissa Elvire (8 months ago)
How do you set your hair?
Ms. T P (8 months ago)
Omg I haven't used song rollers in years.. the only thing I hate is if you don't put paper on the roller they will pull hair out. Thx for the reboot.
Ms. T P (8 months ago)
+Melissa Elvire ok love I'll be waiting for the video 😍
Melissa Elvire (8 months ago)
Ohhhhhh makes sense why they kept getting stuck. M maybe i'll try that next time. Thanks for watching <3

I like the poof or puffiness
Melissa Elvire (8 months ago)
Thank you❤❤ I might try it again. A lot of you actually liked the results.
Sherrell S (8 months ago)
I envisioned many possibilities with those curls. A messy poof, poof with bangs, fauxhawk, pin the back up, pin up sides (80's style), front pulled back to ears for a low afro....But thats just me. My vision when I saw those curls... HEY! 💡I could be a stylist 💯
OneWay Designs238 (8 months ago)
I thought the same thing. There were so many possibilities!! A little edge control and a few Bobby pins and that could have been a cute bun with some curls in the top.
Carrie Reid (8 months ago)

I've always loved sponge rollers...in the future when you get close to the root, twist the roller around (so you have 3 turns of a flat twist) so your roots won't be as puffy.
Sheila Orangd (4 months ago)
What you can do is use and papers to make the end smoother and non frizzy
Melissa Elvire (9 months ago)
Oh good idea!! I may try it next time

Cheryl Iles (1 year ago)
It came out nice. I purchased a box of perm rod papers to use with my sponge rollers to prevent my hair from snagging on the foam rollers. I also experienced puffy roots the first time. I see where you twisted a few but didn’t like it. Try twisting only at the roots and leave the rest of the hair loose before rolling. Tfs. God bless!
Melissa Elvire (1 year ago)
Cheryl Iles oh yea, totally forgot about the end papers
Melissa Elvire (1 year ago)
Cheryl Iles Thank you for watching! Yes I def didn't like the twisting but maybe I'll try the roots technique. Thank you💙💙
